Waterfront Cafe Opens At Train Station

Partners Tina Montez and Kevin Smith offer an array of refreshments and food to train station commuters.

Late Thursday morning, Waterfront Cafe partner Tina Montez was busy coooking up some hot dogs for a weary man waiting for the train. The morning rush had passed and it was quiet in the station, with a cluster of people inside and outside waiting for their respective rides.

"We've been getting a warm reception from folks who are happy to have someplace to get treats in the morning," Montez said, adding the cafe opened on Feb. 9.

And what a spread it is. From donuts, croissants, chips, tea, coffee to hot dogs and turkey sausage breakfast muffins, the list of offerings at the cafe is extensive. There's even a soup of the day.

The previous cafΓ©, El Capitan Coffee Company closed late last year when owner Kirk Knutson said he was not making enough money to keep the cafe open due to slow traffic.

But Waterfront Cafe is, just on sight, a very different business than El Capitan in large part because of all it's offerings. (See winter menu below)
