What Can I Do To Help Disaster Victims in Japan?

You Ask, Patch Answers

We at Suisun City Patch thought this was a message worth repeating.

The earthquake in Japan and tsunami that followed left thousands displaced from their homes and caused an estimated billions of dollars in damage. ย With the overflow of images of the devastation and destruction, one might feel helpless. There is something that we canย do to aid the thousands that have been misplaced by the disaster, however, and it can take less than a minute.

The Salvation Army makes it simple for you to make a donation to help Japan get the aid it needs. Here are a couple of ways that you send your support.

It is important to note that Salvation Army is not currently accepting in-kind donations to send to disaster victims, because the cost to send items is so expensive. The organization would much rather use monetary donations to purchase the needed supplies that would then be distributed in the areas most needed.

CHECK BEFORE YOU GIVE

Unfortunately, natural disasters bring out all kinds of requests for donations. Many are legitimate, but not all. Hereโ€™s a list of nonprofit organizations with handy online tools for checking the reputation of charitable organizations. If youโ€™re unsure of a group asking for your help, these are ways you may be able to learn more.
