What’s Being Done About The Red Light Runners At Sunset Avenue And Highway 12?
You Ask, Patch Answers

If you’ve driven down Highway 12 in Suisun City, no doubt you’ve noticed, if not cringed, at the cars running through red lights in the Sunset Avenue intersection. Space and opportunity seems to get the best of some drivers as they accelerate to beat the clock. So what is being done about the red light runners?
“We occasionally get people calling that have concerns about people running the red light there and then we send officers out to see if there is a problem and take enforcement action (when) necessary,” said Mike Urlaub, traffic officer.
Urlaub said there were three collisions last year in the intersection that resulted from drivers running the red light. Caltrans, however, owns and controls the street lights, so they are in charge of any maintenance, repairs or changes made to them.

“We, just like any citizen, can report a problem to Caltrans,” said Urlaub.
In a conversation with Rocquel Johnson, Branch Chief of the Public Affairs Office at Caltrans, we were told that any concerns regarding red light runners should be taken up with the California Highway Patrol in that area or local law enforcement. CHP in turn said the intersection was under the jurisdiction of Suisun City Police Department.
