What's Happening with the Iconic Sign at the Waterfront?

You Ask, Patch Answers

Suisun City has plans for an iconic sign to be placed near the train station in Old Suisun on the South side of Spring Street. The placement of the story-high sign, with design and funding overseen by the Redevelopment Agency, was chosen so it would be visible from Highway 12.

So how soon can we expect to see the sign up?

โ€œThe design is done,โ€ said Scott Corey, Suisun City marketing manager. โ€œWe just need to do the construction documents so we can put that out to bid.โ€

Corey said the construction documents will let any companies interested in taking on the project know exactly what is expected of them. Choosing the best construction company to complete the project is treated like any other public works project, where the best bid put in by a company is selected.

โ€œWeโ€™re hoping to have that ready to go out to bid sometime this spring,โ€ Corey said.

RDAโ€™s purpose of building a sign visible from the highway is to bring more business to Main Street. In February, the Redevelopment Agency entered into contract with Earthquake Structures, Inc. to have the design completed. An ad hoc committee was also established and revised concepts of the design were made by the RDA in May. RDA approved the design in December.
