TEMECULA, CA — The Old Town Temecula Police Station expansion is underway, and 10 deputies specifically assigned to the Old Town area will move into the refurbished site early next year, the city announced Thursday.

The deputies moving in at 28690 Mercedes Street are known as the "Metro Team." Tasked with ensuring Old Town is a safe destination for locals, visitors and businesses, the team has been in place since March, operating out of the Southwest Sheriff's Station.

The team's switch to an Old Town home base will provide many benefits to the community, according to Temecula Police Chief Chris Durham.

“Businesses, residents and visitors to Temecula’s Old Town will notice an increased presence of deputies and an accelerated response rate to calls," the chief said.

Temecula City Council approved the $250,000 station expansion in August. The rehab includes reconfiguring existing space, including 300 square feet of previously shared common area, as well as adding 335 square feet of new space, according to city staff. The revamped station will include deputy workstations, a sergeant’s office, on-site evidence processing and locker rooms.

“This expansion located right here in Old Town will allow our deputies to serve the community faster and more efficiently," Durham added.

The Old Town Temecula Police Station is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Residents can file police reports, pick up copies of police reports, obtain releases for stored vehicles, have Fix-It tickets signed and request additional police department information. The station also provides "Livescan" and hard card fingerprint services to the public by appointment.

A ribbon-cutting celebration at the newly expanded station is planned for early 2023. Details are forthcoming, according to the city.
