According to a company that provides sales tax analysis for the city, car dealerships and companies that sell consumer goods are at the top right now.
Third quarter point-of-sale receipts for fiscal year 2012-13 second quarter (April though June) show revenue of just over $6.4 million to the city, according to Diamond Bar-based HdL Companies, with $2 million of that pie coming from retailers that sell consumer goods, nearly $1.4 million coming from auto dealerships, and almost $1.2 million derived from general business and industry.

Restaurants and hotels generated about $700,000 in sales tax revenues to the city during the second quarter, as did gas stations, while building and construction added about $500,000 to city coffers and food and drugs about $300,000, HdL Companies reported.

Temecula’s numbers follow statewide results in some areas, although Temecula’s new motor vehicle sales outpaced California’s numbers.
Additionally, apparel and specialty store categories generated most of the local consumer goods uptick, the analysis found.
