TEMECULA, CA — Who says you can't enjoy anonymity when you're famous? Country singer Lainey Wilson went undercover at the recent Stagecoach Country Music Festival, donning a wig and gold outfit, claiming she was "Britney West from Temecula."
Developing the persona was pure fun, according to Wilson's TikTok video, showing her "interviews" using the Britney West fro Temecula identity.
"Who are you excited to see?" she asked in her California Girl accent.
She gathered intel on her fan's favorite songs, "Heart Like A Truck," and "4x4xU" among others.
"They have absolutely no clue," she laughed between interviews. During the event, she became most critical of her "country counterpart."
"I'm just not sure about that Lainey Wilson girl," she says, behind dark sunglasses.
Interviewing guests across the grounds, Wilson appeared to love the total anonymity and broke character to introduce her true self, to the delight of her fans.
Wilson did perform at the show, delayed by a windstorm and temporary evacuation. Wilson brought out two other bands, Riley Green and Little Big Town, during her set.
Why Temecula? It worked for SNL's Ego Nwodim. Her performances became legendary, even earning her an invitation to join then-Mayor Zak Schwank at the "State of the City" address.
