TEMECULA, CA — Regan Schneider is a young Temecula woman on a mission to bring elevated experiences to local residents and visitors alike.
Still shy of her 30th birthday, Schneider has successfully operated several Temecula businesses and is readying to open another.
On May 6, the Temecula Planning Commission OK'd a conditional use permit for Ducks in a Row restaurant, an upscale eatery proposed for Old Town that is expected to open later this year with Schneider at the helm.
The unanimous green light was not surprising given Schneider's business acumen.
She is the CEO of Solidago Farms, the umbrella organization for several of the family's Temecula companies, including Matin Du Bois Vintners, Temecula Lavender Co., and Corbeaux Wine & Tea House.
The latter is also a popular restaurant in Old Town. It's located in the Truax Building at 41923 2nd St., Suite 105. The eatery, founded by Schneider, has been open for three years and, by most accounts, is a must-try for upscale diners seeking something out of the ordinary.
Seeing an opportunity, Schneider wants to give patrons even more. Ducks in a Row restaurant will operate in the same building (near Corbeaux) at 41932 2nd St., Suite 107. The new venture is poised to offer an intimate "Old Hollywood" vibe, with a cocktail culture that feels straight out of a black-and-white movie. The menu will match — venison tartare, whole fish, and steak frites are just some of the initial planned creations. Specialty drinks will be available from a full-service bar.
"People are looking for elevated experiences in Old Town Temecula," Schneider told the commissioners.
The Ducks space is small, just 1,800 square feet. A cozy hideaway for a romantic escape or important business meeting. The restaurant will also feature a small retail area, a sort of apothecary where Solidago Farms products will be sold, including Schneider's luxury skincare line.
Schneider comes from a family of winemakers, and she told commissioners that Ducks in a Row is a sort of tribute to them, dating back to her grandparents.
But Schneider doesn't appear to be a nepo baby. Yes, she has family support (some were there during the May 6 commission meeting), but she's obviously earned her cred.
As a high school kid, Schneider worked under her mom's tutelage at Temecula Lavender Co.; she studied food science at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo; she's a certified sommelier and a winemaker, having learned beside her father at Matin Du Bois, which he founded; and her success as a restaurateur with Corbeaux shows she has the business chops.
Old Town Temecula has changed over the decades, and the new entrepreneurs there are just getting started.
