Michelle’s Place, founded in 2001, is a full-service cancer resource center that serves more than 6,000 cancer patients and families each year. The nonprofit was founded as the final wish of Michelle Watson, a 26-year-old breast cancer patient, to ensure that cancer patients would have access to the support, resources, and information.

"This award belongs to our dedicated staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners who help us provide free services to thousands of families each year. Together, we are creating a community where individuals impacted by cancer can find support, connection, and hope," executive director Kim Gerrish said in a news release.

Michelle's Place was selected as Nonprofit of the Year by state Senator Kelly Seyarto.

"Michelle's Place has become a lifeline for thousands of individuals and families facing one of life's most difficult challenges," said Seyarto.

"Their commitment to ensuring that no one faces cancer alone has made a profound difference throughout Southwest Riverside County and beyond. Through compassion, education, and support, Michelle's Place embodies the spirit of service and community that makes the 32nd Senate District so special. I am honored to recognize them as our 2026 Nonprofit of the Year."
