TEMECULA, CA — Southwest Healthcare Temecula Valley Hospital announced a major advancement in orthopedic care with the successful completion of its first surgical cases using the ROSA Robotic Knee System.
The milestone procedures, performed recently by orthopedic surgeons Matthew Gargulinski, DO, and Mario Luna, MD, mark an exciting step forward in providing personalized, next‑generation knee replacement surgery to the community, according to a Hong Min, Chief Executive Officer of the hospital in a recent news release.
“As a hospital, we are always looking for meaningful ways to elevate patient care, and bringing ROSA to Temecula Valley Hospital is a perfect example of that commitment,” Min said. “This technology enables our teams to offer an even higher level of precision and customization, and I’m incredibly proud of everyone who helped make this possible.”
Data is collected both before and during surgery, and the technology helps guide implant positioning based on each patient’s unique anatomy.
This level of customization may support a more precise fit, smaller incisions, reduced pain and scarring, shorter hospital stays, and smoother recoveries.
Angie Camacho, Chief Nursing Officer, also discussed this system of care.
“This launch reflects the dedication and expertise of our clinical teams,” Camacho said in the release. “Our nurses, surgical services staff, anesthesia providers and sterile processing team worked tirelessly to prepare for these first cases. Their commitment to patient safety and excellence is truly inspiring.”
Dr. Gargulinski, who performed one of the inaugural procedures, emphasized the benefit this technology brings to patients.
“It enables us to approach knee replacement with greater accuracy than ever before,” he said. “By combining robotic data with surgical expertise, we can better match the implant to the patient’s individual anatomy. I’m thrilled to bring this capability to our community and honored to be part of the hospital’s first cases.”
The successful debut of the ROSA Robotic Knee System is the result of months of preparation and close collaboration across multiple departments, the hospital shared.
The introduction of robotic‑assisted knee replacement also strengthens Temecula Valley Hospital’s growing reputation as a destination for advanced orthopedic care in the region.
“We are committed to continually investing in the tools and technology that improve patient outcomes,” Min said. “This is another important step forward in ensuring our community has access to exceptional care, close to home.
The hospital notes that individual results may vary.
"There are risks associated with any surgical procedure. Talk with your doctor about these risks to find out if robotic surgery is right for you."
