Brush Fire Burning West Of Murrieta, Temecula, Grows To 1,183 Acres: See Map

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — The 1,183-acre Mateo Fire that broke out Monday in North County San Diego was continuing to send smoke Tuesday evening across Southwest Riverside County.

The Mateo and Shore fires prompted the South Coast Air Quality Management District to issue a Smoke Advisory Tuesday morning warning that air quality is unhealthy in some areas.

The non-injury Mateo Fire was reported at 1:52 p.m. Monday aboard Camp Pendleton. The blaze is burning directly west of De Luz, near the county lines of Orange, Riverside and San Diego. There were no reports of evacuations.

Firefighting aircraft has been heard across La Cresta, near De Luz.

As of 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, there was 10% containment on the fire.

Base officials said the fire is burning in the Quebec training area, with no immediate threat to personnel or infrastructure.
