WINCHESTER, CA — A brush fire that erupted about a mile north of Lake Skinner in Winchester scorched just under four acres before it was stopped, officials said Thursday.
Shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday, Cal Fire/Riverside County Firefighters rushed to battle the vegetation fire burning at Judith and Speziali roads, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency stated that multiple engine and hand crews were sent to the location and encountered slow-moving flames through medium brush, well away from area residences.
Nighttime conditions and rugged terrain made encircling the blaze difficult, but bulldozer crews established tentative containment lines by midnight, according to officials.
By 8 a.m. Thursday, the blaze was 100% contained.
Crews were expected to continue mopping up until the early afternoon hours.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
