RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Yes, it's expected to get even hotter this week in Riverside County.
An upper-level ridge is forecast to shift west, bringing "the hottest temperatures of this summer thus far, especially by Saturday," according to the National Weather Service.
A heat advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Monday across Riverside County with gradual cooling through Wednesday, but high temperatures are still expected to run 5 to 10 degrees above average during the cool down, according to the NWS.
Then another onslaught of extreme heat is forecast to begin building by Thursday, bringing daytime high temperatures well above 100 in all areas of the county.
Even in cooler Southwest Riverside County, daytime highs are expected to exceed 105 by Saturday; in the Coachella Valley, high temps are forecast to hit 120, the NWS reported.
Some monsoonal moisture is expected later this week and into the upcoming weekend with a slight chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms for the mountains and deserts.
There will be little reprieve after dark. Overnight lows will be higher than average, staying in the upper 60s and low-to-mid 70s in the downtown Riverside area. In Palm Springs, lows will linger in the 80s most of the week, then stay in the lower 90s by the weekend.
The NWS advised the public to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room and remain out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
People are also urged to never leave children and pets in a parked vehicle for even a minute, as temperatures inside can reach deadly levels very rapidly.
