TEMECULA, CA — Polo returns to Temecula this week, and with it all of the glamour and elegance you'd expect from the event. Held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Saturday and Sunday, tickets are available for this lifestyle event in the heart of wine and horse country.
The Temecula Polo Club is at the exclusive Valle de los Caballos horse property, located at 35675 De Portola Road.
Tickets range in price from $99 for a garden party seat under the pepper trees, to $799 for a full garden party private table, or $1,500 for a Founders Cabana. Food and wine are available for purchase, all seating is provided, and valet parking is required for a $25 fee.
This is not tailgating, nor is it rustic, he says. The Temecula Polo Club at the Valle de los Caballos property offers a relaxed and enjoyable way to experience the wine country lifestyle.
This is a new venue, according to event organizer and founder Alex Newman. "It is indeed where wine country meets the sport of kings."
"Whether you're joining us for the first time or making it a tradition, we cannot wait to welcome you back to Temecula Wine Country this weekend," Newman said.
Patch caught up with Newman before the live polo experience.
"Some afternoons are worth slowing down for," he says of the five-star experience he's curating in the valley. "A glass of local wine, beautiful views, and great company. That's what Polo Weekend is all about."
The game of polo will be played by San Diego area teams, he says. Saturday is for guests 21 and older, while Sunday is a family day, where kids 12 and under get in for free.
Local wineries, such as Europa Village, Akash Winery, and Pamec will pour. Wilson Creek Winery is the sparkling wine sponsor for the beloved "Divot Stomps" at halftime.
"It's a very good time," he says.
The Temecula Polo Club brings something beautiful, elegant, and unique to the valley, with sponsors including fine automobiles and luxury brands. Newman is envisioning a true polo community where lessons are taught, and a community of fans
"In September, Lamborghini will be coming out," he said. Ralph Lauren, Chanel, and Dior, all through Macy's, held a pop-up shop at the April outing. This fall, they will hold the Wine and Polo Classic to close out the polo season, where all Temecula wineries will be invited to pour, thanks to a growing partnership with the Temecula Valley Wine Growers Association.
Might Wine and Polo be a replacement for the once-beloved Balloon and Wine Festival? That remains to be seen.
"Polo takes Temecula to a whole new level," Newman says. "We are on the cusp where Temecula can be comparable to La Quinta and Santa Barbara. Only 1% of the people have actually seen a polo game in real life."
