City Of Temecula Encourages Residents To Take Survey For RivCo Hazard Mitigation Plan

The survey asks residents to identify hazards they have experienced or been affected by in the past five years.

TEMECULA, CA — The City of Temecula invited residents to leave their feedback on a survey as Riverside County seeks public input to update a multi-jurisdictional plan designed to reduce the risks and potential losses caused by natural disasters.

The county is updating its Multi-Jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan, a way for participating cities and other jurisdictions prepare for and minimize the impact of natural hazards.

The plan also plays an important role in federal disaster mitigation funding. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requires jurisdictions to maintain an approved hazard mitigation plan to remain eligible for qualified federal grants that support public and private mitigation projects, .

As part of the update, the county is asking residents to complete an online survey about their experiences with natural hazards and concerns about risks facing Riverside County.

The survey asks residents to identify hazards they have experienced or been affected by in the past five years. Examples include evacuations, property damage, health impacts, road closures, cleanup costs and financial losses.

Information collected through the survey will be used to help county officials coordinate mitigation activities and identify ways to reduce risks to residents, the environment, economy and infrastructure.

The county said the survey responses are anonymous and will be used solely to prepare the updated hazard mitigation plan. The survey does not automatically collect respondents' names or email addresses unless they choose to provide that information.

Survey responses may be shared with municipal, county, state and federal agencies for planning purposes.

The county emphasized that the survey questions are intended for information-gathering and do not necessarily indicate that a particular project, policy or mitigation priority has been adopted or will be pursued by a governing body.

More information about the survey can be found here.
