TEMECULA, California -- Faculty, students and fans of the TVHS Golden Bears football program will notice something new when they see their first game this season. The old team colors of mostly brown, gold and white have been altered to feature a more modern and sleek color scheme, using predominantly black, gold and white.
The color scheme and entirely new branding was designed by TVHS alumnus and local Graphic Designer, Jeff Waddleton, of Temecula company Big Giant Media.”We wanted to give the team an entirely new look, that was unique to them and not borrowed from another university or professional franchise” Waddleton said. The new logo features a very powerful and menacing golden bear, who’s snarling face is also featured on the sleek, new, black football helmets. The new logo, uniforms, website and team gear have a much more branded and professional look to them. “Very much keeping with the current trend in collegiate and professional football” says Waddleton.
This new attitude extends beyond the aesthetic. Head coach Paul McGowen has a very specific vision and plan set in place, for growing the program. The plan is very broad in scope and started with the new motto, “IMPACT” which stands for Involved, Motivated, Passionate, Accountable, Confident and Tough. “The idea is for this new attitude to extend beyond the team and impact the school and impact the community” McGowen said.

In addition to the uniforms and the motto, there were changes made with the football facility and equipment. A dynamic weight lifting program was put into place by another local company, Dynamic Fitness Performance Kinesiology. The school bought new drill and training equipment this year, as well. The team’s Field House has also been renovated and is sporting some cutting edge technology, so that they can review film and go over strategy. McGowen said that the new Field House came together with the help of many parent volunteers, who were very generous with their time.
Many of the team’s recent upgrades have also been made possible by increased fundraisng efforts. A Victory Fundraiser and a Golf Ball Drop, along with a Meet the Team Night and the new Impact Bear Wear have been responsible for over $30,000 coming in to the program, so far.

All of the upgrades, in addition to the enthusiasm and commitment from players, coaches, parents, the student body, faculty, the booster club and the community have McGowen very optimistic about the coming season and the future. “My staff and I are not just coaching football players here, we are mentoring young men and future leaders” McGowen said.
All of this makes it obvious that TVHS is not sitting on the sidelines, conceding success in sports and football in particular, to newer flagship programs. Starting with the football program, TVHS is committed to re-establishing itself as a dominant athletic entity, to accompany the school’s established history of academic excellence. “We were the first school in this valley and we are constantly striving to be the best” said McGowen.
