The award-winning Chaparral High School Drama Department is pleased to announce that its spring production will be “9 to 5, the Musical.” With music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, “9 to 5, the Musical” is based on the 1980 hit movie by the same name. Set in 1979, the hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought provoking, and even a little romantic. Opening night is 7 PM, Thursday, February 19; additional performances are 7 PM on February 20, February 26 and February 27. Matinees run at 2 PM on Saturdays, February 21 and February 28. All performances are in the school’s Performing Arts Center.

The plot involves three female co-workers who, when pushed to the boiling point, concoct a plan to get even with their sexist, egotistical, hypocritical boss. In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy, and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy – giving their boss the boot! While he’s away, the women take control of the company, giving their workplace a dream makeover. Featuring a cast of 33 singers and dancers, “9 to 5” stars Amanda Dienhart as Violet; Lexi Gunn as Judy; Sidney Aptaker as Doralee; and features Rafael Loza as Franklin Hart; Shannon McMahon as Roz; and Joseph Lindsley as Joe.

“This is an extremely colorful and high-energy show, and the audience is going to love it,” said CHS drama teacher and director Chris Irvin. “I’ve had a ball directing these extremely talented performers and designing the look of the production. I loved being a kid in the 1970s, and having the chance to revisit that era has been a blast,” he added.
