Black Garlic

Black Garlic has been around some time but not many know about it. Since Artisan's Palate has opened, we've had the pleasure of learning about this product and carrying it. I'm sure, just by hearing the name, you're curious as to what Black Garlic is; well hopefully this will help a bit.

What is Black Garlic?
Black Garlic is just white Garlic that has been fermented over the course of a month. The fermentation process causes the amino acids and sugars to change the color from white traditional garlic to a beautiful black.

Is Black Garlic supposed to be better for you?
It does offer more health benefits than regular garlic because of the fermenting process. Some of these health benefits include lowering cholesterol, lowering the risk of cancer, boosts protection against infections, and can thwart chronic diseases. 

That's all fine and dandy, but what does it taste like?
The taste is very unique and does not carry the same odor as conventional garlic (which is definitely a plus for your breath). It has a smokey yet sweet taste with a texture of soft dried fruit. You can slightly taste the garlic undertones although that is not the focus for the palate. Some tasters have said the taste reminds them of soy sauce. We definitely recommend coming in and seeing for yourself what this unique treat tastes like!

How do you eat/cook with it?
