Body Found In Car At Scene Of Winchester Fire

Police say the car had been abandoned near where the blaze started and was searched by firefighters.

WINCHESTER, CA — Riverside County coroner's officials were working Tuesday to identify a person whose body was found in a vehicle after a blaze broke out in Winchester. Riverside County Fire Department crews discovered the body after the spot fire was reported around 1:40 p.m. Monday, officials said.

According to police and fire officials, the car had been abandoned near where the blaze started and was searched by firefighters.

"All we have at this point is that there was a fire, a car and a body in the car," sheriff's Deputy Robyn Flores told City News Service on Monday evening.

There was no immediate word on how the fire started. The flames were knocked down in 15 minutes and did not threaten any homes or other structures in the rural area.
