Brush Fire Ignites Between Temecula, Palm Desert, Road Closures In Place

ANZA, CA — Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department crews rushed to a brush fire Thursday near Anza Thursday.

Shortly after 10 a.m., firefighters arrived in the 58800 block of Burnt Valley Road where the blaze ignited near Kirby and Burnt Valley roads, just south of Highway 371, a Cal Fire spokesperson said.

The nearly one-acre fire bloomed to 12 acres by 11:30 a.m., according to the department. Highway 371 between Burnt Valley Road and Highway 74 was closed during the firefight, which was battled by resources both from the air and the ground.

"No homes or other structures were immediately threatened," according to Cal Fire.

There was no word on what might have triggered the fire, and the cause remains under investigation. The Anza Valley has been ground zero for unexplained wildfires every summer for the last decade.
