Brush Fire East Of Temecula Halted At 2.5 Acres

The blaze may have started in an abandoned mobile home, according to reports from the scene.

ANZA, CA — A brush fire that erupted Monday on the south end of Anza burned about 2.5 acres and threatened one structure before crews stopped it.

The non-injury blaze was reported shortly after 11:30 a.m. near Spanish Dagger Lane and Yucca Valley Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said multiple engine and hand crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving slowly through medium brush.

Two Cal Fire air tankers and a water-dropping helicopter briefly made runs on the brusher, significantly slowing its progress and enabling firefighters to halt its forward rate of spread by 12:30 p.m., according to reports from the scene.

All aircraft departed minutes later.

One residential property with greenhouses was in the path of the blaze, but it was not damaged thanks to crews quickly setting up a defensive perimeter.

No evacuation orders or road closures were implemented.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation. Fires are frequent in the Anza Valley during wildfire season each year
