Can my spouse kick me out?

Can my spouse kick me out and keep my child?

Dear Gina-

Please help me. I am scared. My husband and I are still living together and he says that he is going to kick me out of the house. We have a 3-year-old daughter together, and he says that he is going to keep our daughter and not give her back to me. I don’t know what to do. My husband asked me to stay home to take care of our baby and now he is demanding that I pay rent or he will kick me out and keep my daughter. What do I do?

Dear Rachel-

Relax! It will be okay. First things first: seek legal advice. You do not have to pay rent or move out of the house just because your husband is telling you to. Furthermore, it is likely that you are in an abusive relationship. You may be able to kick him out of the house based upon his behavior. Please waste no time, seek the advice of counsel before you do anything. Do not leave the house. Do not pay him rent. And, most importantly, do not let him have custody of your daughter.
