Cloudy with Occasional Showers Expected in Inland Empire Monday

Cool, cloudy conditions and occasional showers are expected to continue Monday throughout Riverside County, including the Coachella Valley.

On Sunday, the .27 of an inch of rain recorded in Idyllwild topped the previous record for the day of .24 of an inch, set in 1966, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters said brief, but heavy showers are possible Monday morning as an upper level low pressure system moves through Southern California. A chance of showers was in the forecast through this afternoon, but amounts will vary over short distances. Forecasters said there would be a 20 percent chance of measurable precipitation in the Coachella Valley, a 50 percent chance in the San Gorgonio Pass and the valleys around Riverside, and a 70 percent chance in the mountains.

High temperatures today are forecast to be 67 to 74 degrees in the valleys around Riverside, 54 to 62 degrees in the mountains, 70 to 75 degrees along the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning and 75 to 80 degrees in the Coachella Valley.

The rain is expected to clear up Monday night. Warmer, drier weather is expected to develop mid-week followed by hot weather next weekend, forecasters said.
