County to Give Shelter at Schools During Emergencies

The Riverside County Community Health Agency is obligated to help people in dire times, an official says.

Temecula schools will give shelter to the needy when disaster strikes if the contract is signed Tuesday.

The Temecula Valley Unified School District board of trustees were scheduled to consider the contract during a 6 p.m. meeting at the district's headquarters. For the location, .

"The County of Riverside has the responsibility to assure medical care for those injured by a disaster and provide mass prophylaxis or alternative care to a population, if needed," wrote Lori Ordway-Peck, Assistant Superintendent of Business Support Services in a report. "The county desires, when deemed necessary, to establish… sites at district schools to provide medical care."

The plan will cost the school district nothing, Ordway-Peck said.
