COVID-19 Hospitalizations Drop To 228 In Riverside County

The latest figures bring the county's cumulative totals to 374,058 cases and 5,423 deaths since the pandemic began.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — The number of COVID patients hospitalized in Riverside County has fallen by 15, declining from 243 to 228, according to the latest state figures released Thursday.

Of those patients, 57 were in intensive care, down from 60 on Wednesday.

The latest figures come one day after the county reported 334 new cases of COVID-19 and 28 new virus-related deaths, bringing its cumulative totals to 374,058 cases and 5,423 deaths since the pandemic began.

The fatalities are trailing indicators because of delays processing death certificates and can date back a month or longer.

The number of known active virus cases countywide Wednesday was 3,575 - - down 247 from Tuesday, according to the Riverside University Health System. The active count is derived by subtracting deaths and recoveries from the current total -- 374,058 -- according to the county's Executive Office.

Verified patient recoveries countywide were 365,060.

County health officials did not report cases or deaths Thursday due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
