Donald Trump Taps Temecula Representative for Campaign Spot
The local congressman will help lead outreach efforts in support of Trump, campaign officials say.
TEMECULA, CA - Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Temecula, will be serving as one of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's congressional liaisons, it was announced Thursday.
Trump released a statement saying that both Hunter and Rep. Chris Collins, R-New York, agreed to be co-chairs of his U.S. House Leadership Committee, intended to broaden the GOP frontrunner's appeal in Congress.
"Congressmen Hunter and Collins will lead outreach efforts to their fellows Members of Congress in support of Mr. Trump’s message to Make America Great Again," according to the Trump campaign.
In a statement released on his website, Trump said:
“Congressman Hunter and Congressman Collins are conservative stalwarts. I am honored to have the support of these two well respected Members of Congress who share my vision of securing our borders, strengthening our military, treating our veterans with the respect and care they deserve and putting Americans first again."
Hunter endorsed Trump earlier this month. The former U.S. Marine combat infantryman, who is the son of one-time congressman and Republican presidential candidate Duncan Lee Hunter, is in his fourth term.
"[Trump] can get people motivated and get people to vote who would never otherwise," Hunter said in a televised interview earlier this month. "They wouldn't vote for me, they wouldn't vote for anybody with an 'R' next to their name. But they'll vote for him."
