Dying Dog Saved From Burning Trailer, Gets 2nd Chance At Life

Fire officials say the "lifeless dog" was pulled from a Perris blaze and crews immediately began efforts to revive the dog.

PERRIS, CA — A dog is getting a second chance at life after a holiday weekend save by the Riverside County Fire Department. The female dog was pulled from a burning travel trailer near Lake Perris — owner nowhere in sight — on Saturday, officials report.

Firefighters were called to the Lake Perris RV Campground at 17801 Lake Perris Drive at 10:14 a.m. Saturday. Once there, they found a "trailer with a working fire," the Riverside County Fire Department said on Twitter.

"The travel trailer was 25 percent involved in fire and appeared vacant with the owners not in sight," the agency said. "Crews knocked down the fire and forced open the travel trailer door."

"Smoke and fire filled the travel trailer," the story posted to Twitter with the above photos continued.

"Firefighters did a search of that living space, and pulled this lifeless dog from the travel trailer. They handled both extinguishing the fire from the entire travel trailer and began efforts to revive the dog."

First responders gave the canine oxygen therapy and applied electrical stimulation and she "began to come around," according to the department.

"Her care was passed to City of Perris Animal Control. The last update received was that the dog was alert and attentive," the final tweet said.

The fire was contained in about 20 minutes though the owners of the trailer were never located, fire officials said.
