The event will take place Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8 at Vail Lake in Temecula, California, with heats beginning each day at 9 a.m., 12 p.m., and 3 p.m. Each heat begins with the Adventure Run, where participants will choose either a 5K, 10K, or 15K trail run. From there, participants will compete in a timed 400-yard obstacle challenge course, keg toss contest, archery range shootout, and a tractor tire flipping competition. The goal? Collect as many points as possible in the 3-hour time limit. Using a unique scoring system, the winner(s) will not necessarily be the competitor(s) with the fastest time. Participants will need to use strategy, strength, grit, and spirit in order to accumulate as many points as possible. The participant with the highest combined point total at the end will be named Southern California’s Ultimate Hybrid Adventure Athlete. Once finished, participants can join the spectators for live music, a costume competition, great food, and a celebratory glass of champagne or an ice-cold beer.

Participants have the option of registering individually or they can participate in the Teams 4 a Cause (T4AC) division. Teams 4 a Cause will allow participants to raise money for the charity or cause of their choice. Every participant they get to join their team, Hybrid Adventure Series will make a donation of $5.00 per racer to that teams charity of choice. Registration is $65 per person and will include a racing bib, timing chip, T-shirt, H.A.S. finisher medal, a free beer or champagne for those participants 21 and over, and a chance to qualify for the H.A.S. National Championship. If you start a team, you will receive $10 off your registration fee and each person who joins your team will receive $5 off their registration. “We wanted to create an event that was built around having fun while giving back.” Says Devin Kelly, event director of Hybrid Adventure Series. “An event that’s approachable for the weekend warrior but challenging enough for the hardcore athlete. Mental toughness is just as important as physical conditioning at the Hybrid Adventure Series. This event is more about challenging one’s own personal limits, having fun, while making a difference in your community.”

The southern California event is the first of five races. Upcoming races in the series are planned across the Southwest and Pacific Northwest in Boulder, Colo., Portland, Ore., Phoenix Az., and Austin Texas.
