Free MLK Day Admission At San Bernardino National Forest

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA – Visitors to the San Bernardino National Forest, about one-third of which is in Riverside County, will be able to access any part of the preserve for free Monday in celebration of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

According to the U.S. Forest Service, fee waivers will be in effect all day, in all areas of the 676,000-acre forest.

"From Wrightwood to Idyllwild, the San Bernardino National Forest offers a variety of rich experiences for visitors," said USFS spokeswoman Jody Noiron. "You can play in snow, hike the tallest peaks in Southern California, explore hundreds of miles of dirt roads and immerse yourself in nature."

Access to 98 percent of federally protected land is free most -- if not all -- of the time. However, a few activities require a Daily Adventure Pass, which won't be needed on Monday.

The next no-fee opportunity is scheduled on Presidents Day, Feb. 19.
