Gas Leak In Chardonnay Hills Neighborhood: Evacuation Orders Lifted

Two homes were evacuated and six sheltered in place during a Wednesday morning gas leak, Cal Fire reports.

TEMECULA, CA — A neighborhood in the Chardonnay Hills area suffered a broken 2-inch gas line, with two homes evacuated as a precaution, Cal Fire reported Wednesday. Both firefighters and SoCal Gas responded to stop the leak, which was resolved before noon.

The gas line in question was "seeping from a breached mainline" around 10:30 a.m. in the 41300 block of Promenade Chardonnay Hills in Temecula, Cal Fire/Riverside County spokesperson Alex Izaguirre told Patch.

"Two homes in that immediate area were evacuated during the incident while six other residents were advised to shelter in place," according to Izaguirre.

Sheriff's deputies cordoned off the street while crews worked to mitigate the leak, according to reports from the scene.

SoCal Gas Co. technicians repaired the leak and evacuated residents were given the all-clear to return home roughly an hour after the gas line rupture was reported, according to Izaguirre.

The cause of the rupture was not immediately known.
