Highland Fire At 100% Containment, Families Who Lost All Band Together

One week ago, a fast-moving blaze raced through the small Riverside County town of Aguanga. Nearly 2,500 acres burned in the wildfire.

AGUANGA, CA — The Highland Fire smoldering near Southwest Riverside County reached full containment Monday, one week after it began, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

The wildfire ate through nearly 2,500 acres in the small community of Agunaga, at the junction of Highways 79 and 371. All evacuation orders were removed or downgraded to warnings Sunday, and all road closures were lifted, according to the department.

The fire started shortly before 12:45 p.m. Monday in the Highlands and Aguanga Ranchos roads. According to reports, the wildfire began next to a residence, and the exact cause was still being investigated.

During the incident, two firefighters were injured, the fire destroyed thirteen structures, and another three were damaged.
