Individual Hospitalized After Officer-Involved Shooting
Police were responding to a "suspicious person" call Sunday morning near a Temecula shopping center, officials said.

TEMECULA, CA – An individual was hospitalized after being shot by an officer Sunday morning as police responded to a "suspicious person" call at a shopping center in Temecula, according to authorities.
Police were called at 10:43 a.m. to the center on the 31500 block of South Temecula Parkway on the northeast corner of the parkway and Margarita Road, where the initial arriving officer "made contact" with the individual, who was then shot, the Temecula Police Department said.
Details on the person, the nature of the police call or what transpired between the officer and the individual were not released.

The suspect, whose name was not released, was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the department said, adding that no additional suspects were involved.
Salon de Cheveux, an AT&T store, Postal Annex and a Bank of America branch near the scene of the shooting were closed during the investigation, Riverside County Sheriff's Deputy Robyn Flores said.

Per agency policy, the officer involved in the shooting, whose name also was not given, was placed on administrative leave.
Investigators from the Sheriff Department's Central Homicide Unit has taken over the case.
