Noise Advisory: Loud Booms From Camp Pendleton May Be Heard In Southwest RivCo

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Residents may hear loud explosions throughout the week as Marines conduct live-fire training with high-explosive munitions on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.

The training is scheduled from Monday through Sunday, with firing planned around the clock in some areas. Mortar exercises are scheduled daily from midnight. to 11:59 p.m. Monday through Friday, with mortar and artillery exercises planned Saturday and Sunday.

The exercises will involve firing high-explosive munitions in the base's Whiskey and Zulu impact areas, according to Camp Pendleton officials.

The base said the training may be heard at any time during the day or night.

Fallbrook is 5 miles from the Zulu and 7.3 miles from the Whiskey impact areas, while Oceanside is 6.6 miles from the Zulu and 9.9 miles from the Whiskey impact areas. Depending on atmospheric conditions, communities as far as 50 miles away from the impact areas may be able able to hear the sound of explosions, according to officials.
