Major Changes Coming To Temecula Traffic: Interchange Project Breaks Ground
Here's all you need to know about the Temecula Parkway Interchange Project.
TEMECULA, CA – Temecula drivers long frustrated with the nightmare that is the I-15 and SR-79S connection can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that there is hope on the horizon. A new multi-million interchange project in the region has officially broken ground.
The Temecula Parkway Interchange Project kicked off on Tuesday morning, as community leaders gathered in a ceremonial groundbreaking at the future site of the undertaking. Construction is expected to last 18 months and will be done in phases to keep traffic flowing as best as possible through the zone, city officials say.
The project is estimated to cost $26 million, $14 million of which is being contributed by the Pechanga Tribe.

"Once completed, the project will improve traffic flow entering and exiting the freeway, by eliminating the ever-present line of vehicles waiting to exit southbound I-15 and by throttling traffic entering the freeway with ramp meters and HOV lanes added to the on ramps," according to the city of Temecula.
Among the project's features:

- The reconfiguration of the on- and off-ramps to/from southbound I-15 at Temecula Parkway (SR-79).
- The new on-ramp to southbound I-15 will align with Old Town Front Street.
- A new auxiliary lane and continuous movement looping off-ramp will allow southbound motorists to exit southbound I-15 and head east on Temecula Parkway without stopping.
- The widening Temecula Parkway of between Bedford Courtand the freeway.
Some of the work that needs to be done to get the project started includes:
- The demolition of a nearby gas station
- Power, water and sewer utilities need to be relocated
- A bridge will be built over Temecula Parkway for the new southbound off-ramp
- Traffic signals will be reconfigured
