Man Dies After Temecula Assault, Homicide Investigating: Police
Police have released more information related to the Friday death of a man in town.

TEMECULA, CA — A man who died in Temecula on Friday, prompting an hours-long death investigation and prominent police presence in a local neighborhood, had allegedly assaulted a family member who called police for help, sheriff's officials said Saturday.
The incident on Merlot Court, near Rancho California Road and Meadows Parkway, was reported around 8 a.m., according to sheriff's Deputy Robyn Flores.
"The reporting party advised Sheriff’s Dispatch he had been assaulted by an adult male family member who was still inside the residence," the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said in a news release. "Upon their arrival, officers found the adult male victim lying on the driveway of the residence with serious injuries."

That man was rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive.
When police went inside the home, they found the suspect inside, who was also seriously injured.

"While waiting for paramedics to arrive, the suspect stopped breathing and officers began life saving measures to resuscitate him," officials said. "Efforts by officers and by paramedics to revive the suspect were unsuccessful and he was pronounced deceased at the scene."
The sheriff's department said that "based on the presence of the officers during the suspect’s death," homicide investigators took over the investigation.
