New 'Pirate Party' Themed Park Opening In Temecula

The public park now features a towering pirate ship, an octopus climber, an "accelerator" swing and more.

TEMECULA, CA — The City of Temecula will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil the second of several new themed playgrounds being constructed at various parks around the City. Utilizing Measure S funds together with other funding sources, the City is now able to renovate many of its existing parks and playgrounds to ensure they are safe, up to date, and creatively designed for the enjoyment of its youngest citizens for years to come.

Nicolas Road Park, located at 39955 Nicolas Road, was originally dedicated on October 19, 1995 and is scheduled to re-open on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at 10:00 a.m., with a brand new playground themed “Pirate Party.”

The City, in collaboration with Temecula Valley Unified School District, will welcome students from neighboring Nicolas Valley Elementary School who will be among Temecula’s first children to explore the new playground featuring a towering pirate ship, an octopus climber, an “accelerator” swing and more for kid-friendly “pirate party” fun.

“Many of the City’s older playgrounds have reached their life expectancy and we are able to update them thanks mainly to Measure S funding,” stated Mayor Maryann Edwards. “The City is also reconstructing and expanding the snack bar at Ronald Reagan Sports Park, replacing the pool deck and plaster at the
Community Recreation Center, and renovating 10 public restrooms throughout the City among other improvements using Measure S funds, including the recent replacement of the synthetic turf at all four soccer fields at Patricia Birdsall Sports Park,” added Edwards.

Temecula’s longest standing Council Member, Jeff Comerchero, is credited for working diligently over the years as part of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Subcommittee to ensure new playgrounds replace older playgrounds with creatively designed themes to enhance and enrich young imaginations for
generations to come. Temecula’s newest Council Member, James “Stew” Stewart, was appointed to the Subcommittee in 2017 and likewise supported and helped to finalize these plans as approved by the City Council.
