The Discovery Records listening party celebrates local singer Olivia Rodrigo's new release 'You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love.'
TEMECULA, CA — Temecula's Discovery Records will hold an Olivia Rodrigo listening party to celebrate the local singer's new release: "You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love."
The line starts at 8 p.m., with doors opening up at 11:59 p.m. at the store located at 27537 Commerce Center Drive, #105 in Temecula. No RSVP is necessary; just come early, the store owner recommends. "Join us and celebrate 'You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love' as the clocks strike 11:59 p.m.-12 a.m., as Thursday turns to Friday.
The already-released single "Drop Dead" is generating a lot of local buzz for the Temecula home-grown singer, but there are many reasons record shop owner Seabrook Mendoza is amped for this album's release.

We caught up with him as he is preparing for listeners to show up Thursday night for the party.
"Our shop is located on the same street where Olivia Rodrigo took lessons as a kid," Mendoza shared. It's only fitting to come to Discovery Records to get the tracks as early as possible. "She used to perform out front of stores in town, and if you're a fan this is definitely the palce to come."

"The listening party will be an Olivia Rodrigo fan experience, featuring official record label freebies and special desserts, all in an intimate setting with mood lighting," he said. Discovery Records got involved with the album launch through the Record Store Day organization, which works closely with major record labels, he said. "We're an official Record Store Day store and were selected by the record label to host this party."
The shop has a cult following of its own, with numerous teens involved in its Vinyl club.
Mendoza, also a touring DJ, will spin Olivia Rodrigo tunes all night, and he's teased having fellow touring DJs attend the event.
The record store owner is a veritable treasure trove of Olivia Rodrigo lore.
"What makes us special is that we are highlighting an artist who grew up in this area and who also went to Music school on the same street that my record store is located on," Mendoza said.
Another factor is the resurgence in vinyl record sales that pop singers like Rodrigo have encouraged among their fans.
"Physical media like vinyl is incredibly sought after these days by all ages and has become even more popular recently," Mendoza said. "There is a large community of vinyl peeps that are out here in the Temecula area. We even have chaparral having its own student-led vinyl club that consists of at least 50 members."
Mendoza is looking forward to hearing more of Robert Smith's influence on Rodrigo's new album.
"I’ve only heard two of the tracks from the album, as the rest of the tracks are under high confidentiality and won’t be released or played until the night of the listening party," he said. "I have to say that my favorite track is 'What’s Wrong With Me' which features lead singer, Robert Smith."
If you plan on attending the listening party, get there early to line up and, most importantly, be ready to have a great time and meet other Olivia Rodrigo fans!
The store recommends arriving early. Official line-wait time starts at 8 p.m. He suggests waiting patiently for the doors to open at 11:59 p.m. and following concert-line-wait etiquette. "Hold places for people who have to step out to get food or go to the bathroom," he said. "People tend to be really helpful for events like this.
Mendoza has many stories of the singer and her family, and he shared a few with us.
"I’ve met Olivia Rodrigo’s dad on numerous occasions out here in Temecula, and he told me a year or so ago that she was working on this album, so I could not say anything then, and I’m super excited that it’s finally out!"
NOTE: At the free event, Discovery Records will have the 7" vinyl record available for sale while supplies last, which features tracks from the new album.
"There will be giveaways and prizes with the purchase of the new album, which we will sell once it hits midnight."
