Pechanga Woman's Reflection on Indigenous Day Meeting at Los Angeles City Council

It was a glorious day for some, disappointing for others. But should we continue to honor someone who destroyed so many?

I am so proud of my cousin Olivia Walls, a Pechanga of Temecula descendant who penned the account of her experiences at the recent Los Angeles City Council Meeting which resulted in a 14-1 vote to change Columbus Day to Indigenous people's day at Original Pechanga's Blog

I took the time to watch the stream and the Pro Columbus speakers were completely and woefully unprepared. In fact, one speaker was proud that the Italians gave us .....spaghetti (would Chef Boy R Dee be a better choice?). Most of the Native speakers discussed the historical violence and death that Columbus brought,"

Here's the beginning of Olivia's reflections you can find the rest at the link above. Please, come read and I'm interested in your comments.

The Los Angeles City Council made a historic decision yesterday…to abolish Columbus Day and replace it with Indigenous Peoples Day.

To say that it was an important day for Native Americans would be an understatement.

To say that it was another Charlottesville, Virginia situation is to not understand what actually happened yesterday.

To say that it was the same as all those “other politically correct snowflake people” who want to tear down historic statues is just plain ignorance.
