TEMECULA, CA — A fundraiser was launched for a 14-year-old girl who was struck by a vehicle last week and airlifted to Loma Linda Hospital for medical assistance.

Already, the GoFundMe has raised over $12,000 thanks to numerous supporters.

"Brianna Hamlett is my 14-year-old little sister, and our family is facing a challenge never expected," Shacole Hamlett, who organized the fundraiser, wrote. "Seeing her in the hospital, facing such a long road to recovery, is incredibly hard for all of us."

She will need months of therapy, rehabilitation and emotional support, they said. They started the fundraiser to cover the extra costs of housing, meals, and travel to be near her.

On Tuesday afternoon, just as school let out, a vehicle struck Brianna near Temecula Valley High School, significantly injuring her, and leading to a massive traffic closure around the school.
That evening, the school district responded to families concerned about the incident.

The district confirmed that Brianna had been injured crossing the street between the school and Ronald Reagan Sports Park and was receiving medical care.

District spokesperson Mike Marble said that they remain in contact with the family, but there was no additional information regarding the student's condition or recovery.

"Out of respect for the student and her family, we are not sharing additional details and ask our community to honor their privacy during this incredibly difficult time," the district letter stated.

At 3:30 p.m., Riverside County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the area of Margarita Road and Rancho Vista Road regarding the report of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian, Lt. Deirdre Vickers told Patch.

"Upon arrival, deputies located an unresponsive juvenile in the roadway," she said.

A ground ambulance drove the patient to a nearby landing zone, where an airship flew the injured child to Loma Linda Hospital in critical condition shortly before 5 p.m.," Cal Fire's April Newman said.

The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation, according to the Sheriff's Department.

"No arrests have been made, and the cause of the collision is still under investigation. No further details are available at this time," Vickers said.

Temecula Valley Unified School District spokesperson Mike Marble told Patch that additional counselors were on campus Wednesday, available to support students and staff.

"We recognize that news like this can affect students in different ways, and we are committed to providing care and support to anyone who needs it," Marble said. "We will share updates as appropriate while continuing to respect the family's privacy."
