Motorist, 21, Suspected Of Being Under Influence Of Marijuana In Head-On Crash Into Tree

The 21-year-old driver and her two passengers were injured in the Tuesday morning accident, authorities said.

 LA QUINTA, CA --- A young woman who crashed a car head-on into a tree in La Quinta, injuring herself and her two passengers, was in custody today on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana.   

Linet Garcia, 21, of Indio, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, where she was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail, said sheriff's Sgt. Ben Ramirez.   

The crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday on Miles Avenue, west of Seeley Drive.

Garcia was behind the wheel of a white Infiniti that was heading east on Miles Avenue when it struck the median and then a palm tree, Ramirez said.   Garcia and her two female passengers sustained what were described as minor injuries. T

hey were treated at a hospital, where Garcia was arrested after being released.

She is due in an Indio courtroom tomorrow, according to jail records.
