Standoff Ends In French Valley; Suspect Arrested [UPDATE]

The incident began Wednesday a.m. with a domestic disturbance call at a home in the unincorporated area of Riverside County, officials said.

FRENCH VALLEY, CA – A 20-hour standoff between law enforcement and a man barricaded inside a French Valley home, that began with a domestic-dispute call, ended this morning with the male suspect surrendering and being arrested, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office.

The male suspect, who was not identified, was taken into custody shortly before 7 a.m. from a home on the 35100 block of Nightingale Street in the unincorporated town in Riverside County, Deputy Mike Vasquez said this morning.

The incident began around 11 a.m. Wednesday with a domestic-dispute call involving a man and a woman, Vasquez said. When responding deputies arrived, the woman was not at the scene, he added, but the male refused to leave the home and barricaded himself inside.

Vasquez said the case still is being compiled, and he did not have details on whether the male had weapons inside the house or the relationship between the two parties, but nearby neighbors were evacuated as a precaution.

"During the course of the investigation, deputies confirmed the male suspect is barricaded within the residence and is alone," a sheriff's statement sent to Patch Wednesday evening stated. "At this time, the Sheriff’s Department is working to resolve the situation peaceably."
