TEMECULA, CA — What's in a sunrise? Everything. This photo, captured by Patch Editor Ashley Ludwig, was snapped at 6 a.m. before the sun topped Mount Palomar in Southwest Riverside County.

The moment was magical, with stars still dotting the early morning ahead of sunrise. Clouds were brightening shades of pink, purple, orange, and magenta while the planet Venus hung around, outlined by an airplane "contrail" that speared the sky.

With the shortest day of the year set to arrive next week, sunrise is later and later in the Temecula Valley, making this rare sight more visible to many commuters. Be sure to take a moment to pause and capture those moments that take your breath away on camera!
