TEMECULA, CA — National Trails Day is coming and the City of Temecula's Community Services Department is planning something special for local bicycle riders.

The National Trails Day event is slated to begin at 8 a.m. June 3 in the Old Town Temecula Community Theater parking lot at 42051 Main Street.

Not coincidentally, the start of the event is right by the Old Town Creek Walk.

"Enjoy free refreshments, learn about bicycle safety, and explore the trail while participating in a guided bike ride," a city spokesperson said in a recent news release. Maps of the area's trails will be provided for those who would like to enjoy a self-guided bike ride.

Mayor Zak Schwank, an avid bike rider, spoke on the upcoming day.

“I encourage our community to come join us as we celebrate National Trails Day together, regardless of one’s experience on trails," he said. "Trails bring us together, promote healthy lifestyles, have transportation benefits, and help create positive pride and identity in our community.”

In October, the Santa Gertrudis Interconnect trail opened, bringing approximately one mile in length of low-stress bike riding. There is also a Class I facility (off-road) that goes under Ynez Road, I-15, and Jefferson Avenue, so you don’t have to deal with traffic and busy intersections, according to the city.

The interconnect closes a major gap in the Temecula Loop, which is a planned 17-mile loop around the entire City.

Many of Temecula's trails connect throughout the city, making it possible to enjoy our parks, restaurants, and shopping on foot or riding a bike, Schwank shared over social media. You can find a detailed map of these trails online at TemeculaCA.gov.
