2nd Bomb Threat At Temecula DMV Prompts Evacuation

TEMECULA, CA — For the second time in two weeks, the California Department of Motor Vehicles office in Temecula was evacuated after a bomb threat was phoned into the facility Tuesday and ultimately determined to be a prank call.

California Highway Patrol Officer William Strom said that about 10 a.m., representatives from the DMV contacted the CHP, saying someone had claimed there was an explosive device somewhere on the property at 27851 Diaz Road.

"CHP officers immediately evacuated employees and customers from the DMV building," Strom said. "CHP explosive sniffing K-9s were called to the scene. They were used to search the exterior and interior of the DMV building."

He said Diaz Road was closed from Rancho Way to Via Montezuma while the property was scoured for nearly two hours, with no hazardous devices found anywhere.

The building was reopened about noon.

On July 2, a similar threat was made to DMV representatives by an unknown caller, and in that instance, too, an evacuation was ordered and the building secured, reopening in the afternoon.

The investigation into the bogus threats is ongoing, and anyone with information was asked to contact the CHP Temecula Area Office at 951-506-2000.
