Temecula Guinness World Record Set In California In 2019
From the famous to the obscure, here are 19 of the wackiest Guinness World Records achieved in California over the past 365 days.

TEMECULA, CA — Several Californians earned the right to be listed in the Guinness World Records in 2019 for a variety of reasons. No one more publicly than Jennifer Aniston of "Friends" fame who received one million Instagram followers in under 6 hours. But did you know about these other crazy records? Read on for the best.
Here are 19 records set in California in 2019.
- Chatsworth resident Jenna Bandy earned the right to her record in November, for throwing a football 30 yards into a target, according to the Guinness record book.
- Christon Staples managed six slam dunks in one minute while blindfolded. For that record, Staples successfully dunked the ball, with forearms raised and lowered, the ball not released until it entered the net.
- Further south in Temecula, Michael Ferreri managed the feat of "The Most Juggling Catches in One Minute," in March of this year. Ferreri, a resident of Spain, was in Temecula on March 25, when he broke the record of catching 558 balls during three-ball juggling.
- Amy Leong set a Guinness World Record at the museum in Hollywood when she won the "Fastest Time To Write A Phrase With Magnetic Letters" on November 10. She completed the feat of spelling out "Guinness World Records" in 21.192 seconds.
- California's favorite "Friends" star also earned a record this year. Jennifer Aniston received the Guinness World Record for reaching one million Instagram followers faster than any other actor, in just under 5 hours and 16 minutes. Anniston has 22.1 million followers as of Christmas week.
- One of the more obscure Guinness World Records included a Santee woman's Largest Collection of Hedgehog-Related Items. Sally Cardirci has amassed 881 hedgehog items over 40 years, the site says. The collection started with a hedgehog figurine given to her by her daughter as a thank you gift.
- Max Park of Fremont solved a 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube, one-handed this year, in 6.82 seconds. He achieved the feat at the Bay area Speedcubin' 2019 event in October and is a multiple Rubik's Cube record-holder. According to Guinness, Park was diagnosed with Autism at an early age and took up cubing as part of his therapy.
- Irwindale resident Aaron Bonk now holds the record for "the most consecutive whip cracks juggling catches." In May, Bonk crack-juggle-caught three whips 362 times, the site says.
- Irvine resident Andy Holt won a record for the "largest mechanical wings on a cosplay costume" in 2019. The just over 19-foot winged cosplay costume for DC Comics character, "Hawkman."
- Vista resident Roger Herzler achieved the feat of the "Most Yoga Classes Attended in One Week." Between June 23 and 30, he attended 25 classes at Yoga Branch. "Roger loves yoga, and he'd like the share his experience with others," the site said. "He thought attempting a Guinness World Records title would be a great way to generate interest in the Yoga studio."
- Viktor Hovland set a golfing world record in June of this year. Hovland won the lowest total score at the US Open by an amateur in 2019. The Norway resident earned the score of 280, shooting 69, 73, 71 and 67, four under par, while at Pebble Beach Golf Links. "Hovland broke the record of 282 set by Jack Nicklaus in 1960," the site said.
- In February of this year, Annie Judis won the title of the oldest competitive rope skipper at the Southern California Open Jump Rope Championship in Coronado. "Annie has been active her entire life," a spokesperson for Guinness World Records wrote. "In her early years, she studied Martial Arts and skiing," they said. She wanted to "challenge herself and motivate others to never give up on their health, no matter their age," the site said.
- This April of this year in Lake Elsinore, UK resident Elliott Shimmin set the record for the most somersaults while skydiving, according to the Guinness World Record books. His younger brother, Harry Shimmin, holds the record for the most backward somersaults in a skydive.
- This year, San Diego was the location for the "Largest Cornhole Tournament" ever, according to the record book. Ian Pyka and DPR Construction gathered for the tournament in June, with 444 participants.
- San Diego was the location for "The Most Waste Paper Shredded In 8 Hours," according to the record books. Over 238,060 pounds of waste paper was shredded in an event held by San Diego Credit Union, Shred-it, iHeartMeda, Inc., and Live Well San Diego. They broke their record, held at a previous "Super Shred" event.
- In March, Vanessa Lachey and Stonyfield Organic bagged enough lunches to earn a world record. Lachey bagged nine lunches in under 3 minutes, each of which included Stonyfield Organic Yogurt Snack Packs, an apple, a box of water, and a turkey sandwich. During the event, $10,000 was raised for the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
- The record for moonwalking with a soccer ball balanced atop one's head was broken in February! Cirque Du Soleil artist Aboubacar Traore of Guinea moonwalked over 32 feet in San Diego.
- Another group record was broken this year in San Diego by The Longhairs. The Great Cut at the Port Pavilion, a charity hair event, was held to fundraise for Children With Hair Loss. In March, the group amassed 339 pounds of hair, which brought people from all over the country together, the site said.
- This year's American Music Awards in Los Angeles saw the largest number of awards presented to one artist. Taylor Swift brought home six trophies in 2019, bringing her career tally to 29 awards, a new Guinness World Record. Swift won her first award as Favorite Female Artist in 2008.
