Temecula Jobs At All-Time High, City Says

City officials said local jobs are steadily on the rise.

TEMECULA, CA — Thousands of new jobs have been created in Temecula within the last few years since the recession hit, and city officials announced Tuesday that the region is seeing "steady employment growth." A total of 5,300 new jobs were created in Temecula alone since the first quarter of 2014 — equating to a 10 percent rise in the local employment rate.

"Reports state jobs are at an all-time high with second quarter 2017 statistics reporting 54,231 total jobs within the city limits," the city said, citing statistics from the State of California Employment Development Department, or EDD.

According to the EDD, the current unemployment rate in Temecula is 3.5 percent, which is lower than the county average of 4.2 percent.

"The City experiences steady employment growth as economic development continues to be a mainstay in its effort to create jobs locally, enhance local economy and improve the quality of life of its residents," Temecula officials said.

Among the city's top employers, Pechanga Resort & Casino employs 4,750 people full time, according to the resort. Approximately 750 of those jobs were just added with their recent expansion.

"I’m pleased to see Temecula continues to attract reputable companies and developers; we embrace new businesses coming into the community." Mayor Matt Rahn said. "The City continues to strive to enhance job opportunities and create an ecosystem that strengthens our local economy."

In Southwest Riverside County overall, there's been a 16 percent rise in unemployment rates since the first quarter of 2014, with nearly 12,000 new jobs created in the region, officials said.

"We continue to work toward building a community that can live, work and play here in town by focusing our efforts on business attraction, retention and creating jobs," said Kisa Puckett of the Office of Economic Development.

Temecula officials said they "foresee continuous growth" in the years to come as several new hotels, restaurants and retail stores are expected to put down roots.
