Temecula Residents May Hear Camp Pendleton Explosions

Land mine removal training at Camp Pendleton was set for noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Temecula residents should not be alarmed if they hear loud explosions and booming sounds coming past the mountains, officials said.

Camp Pendleton Marines will be setting off line charges -- up to 1,750 pounds each of C-4 explosives -- during land-mine removal practice, officials said.

The loud sounds may be heard 50 miles away from the base because of atmospheric conditions. Temecula is about 25 miles from the center of camp.
