TEMECULA, CA — Temecula Valley Unified School District (TVUSD) trustees unanimously approved the layoffs of seven school employees, including teachers and counselors.

The layoffs were swiftly approved during a contentious meeting that included tension between some of the school board members, and several adults raising issue with controversial comments recently made comparing male students to strippers after they were seen on video wearing Speedos.

TVUSD issued preliminary layoff notices in February. The number of layoffs were reduced after staff members were assigned to other positions and openings due to other employees being promoted, transferred, and retiring.
The school board approved the layoffs before the deadline of Friday, which is mandated by the state.
