Temecula Students' Test Scores in Top 20 Percent

The 2010 API scores against which the students' 2011 scores will be measured were released today.

Twenty-seven of Temecula’s 29 schools were in the top 20 percent of standardized test scores in the state.

The results were released today by the California Department of Education and based on standardized tests administered during the spring of 2010.

Three of s four high schools, all six of its middle schools and 18 of its 19 elementary schools were in the top 20 percent, according to the results. Which schools fell short was unavailable today.

Last year's scores set the standard against which this year's scores will be measured in order to determine whether the schools are improving, according to the department.

Also, the average score for the school district’s students surpassed the federal statewide goal of 800 mandated under the No Child Left Behind Act.

The average score in the district was 856 out of a possible 1,000 and a minimum of 200, according to the department.

The scores were divided into various racial and demographic group. Asian American students scored highest on average with 901, then Filipino students with 893, mixed race students with 878, white students with 874, Pacific Island students with 845, Hispanic students with 818, African American students with 808 and Native American students with 804.

Also, socioeconomically disadvantaged students scored 792, English learners scored 764 and students with disabilities scored 686.

None of the district’s schools scored in the bottom 30 percent, according to the department.
