TEMECULA, CA — A juvenile was taken into custody this week following an investigation into a bomb scare after hours at Temecula Valley High School, authorities say.

Just after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department arrived at the high school campus after a bomb threat was made over a text message. The campus was immediately evacuated, according to a Principal's message to parents obtained by Patch.

"The reporting party advised there was a bomb at the location," Lt. Deirdre Vickers said. The sheriff's Hazardous Materials Team arrived and searched the school, and dogs were called in to assist with the search. However, no suspicious items or evidence of a threat was found, and the campus was deemed safe.

Investigating officers identified the juvenile thought to be responsible for making the threatening text message, and that person was taken into custody for criminal threats, according to Vickers.

The principal said classes continued through the week's end, with additional law enforcement present out of an abundance of caution.
